In the absence of a Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement (NICRA) for organizations with USG funding, your organization is likely not able to recoup a portion of your indirect costs necessary to run and grow your organization. That is because organizations awarded federal grants become eligible for a 10% reimbursement on indirect costs, known as the “de minimis rate”, without the need for intricate paperwork necessary for the NICRA application processes. While helpful, the de minimis rate usually falls significantly short of the typical 25% - 45% rate range required by most organizations to adequately run their operations.
